RALEIGH, N.C. — I have three children – first grade, Pre-K, and a 2-year-old. My eldest is in a public Wake County School and has a 504 Plan. My middle child is in a Private Pre-K and has an IEP, an individualized Education Plan. It’s important to note that, while both of my children started this process with a private evaluation and ADHD diagnoses, that is not a requirement though very helpful for the assessment team.
The process to get my children accommodations so that they had a better chance of succeeding in school was vastly different but the end result is the same – they get support based on their needs.
