Living with ADHD in a Neurotypical World
Raising neurodiverse children in a neurotypical world is a challenging and often lonely experience. When my kid has a meltdown in a public space, I get stares and judgment. People comment about how I need to discipline my children more. What they don’t see is the very real and constant struggle to walk the fine line that is their emotional regulation and sensory overload.
My children have ADHD. They have beautifully unique brains that give them so many super powers but also some very real struggles. As their mom, I have struggled with my own share of depression and anxiety as I support them through this world.
It is because of these struggles that I created The ADHD Parent Peer. It is my goal that families navigating a neurodivergent diagnosis do not have to struggle alone. I aim to provide support and community for parents and caretakers. We need to fill our cups, share our struggles and our wins, with people that get it. In doing so, we can be better parents to our children.
